Obligations, jobs and day to day happenings are roaring back to life. Massive contrived meals around that rarely used dining room table are traded in for small comfortable dinners in the breakfast room or at the couch as we bid adieu to the holidays and say hello to the warm-welcomed mundane. We celebrated 2011 with a cacophony of flavors and dishes we spent the year perfecting, slaving over, tasting time and time again. We labored over dishes that became our favorites, dishes that we could brag about and show off to family and friends.

Now it’s time to start again. It’s a new year and it’s a time to discover new favorites, contemporary flavor combinations, strange dishes we would have never considered stepping near in 2011. It’s time to look at the way we do things and finally take that big step we’ve been thinking of for a year. Some of us may have resolutions, others may just want to spice up their typical fare and a cou

source

Photo

Photo

Photo

Photo

Photo

The other day, I wrote about attempting to drill through glass...

The other day, I wrote about attempting to drill through glass and I finished up the project this weekend. I think it turned out beautifully — I love the idea of bottled light!

These would be pretty by a wintery window or under an entry table. I like the way the gold paint makes the bottom of the bottles look misty and glow-y, even during the daytime.

I’ve got a ton of images and DIY instructions below if you’d like to try this too. For tools and supplies, I started at my localTrue Value. (Lately, I swear I’m in there every single day.)

I started with these apple juice bottles from Whole Foods. I have long admired these bottles — I love the contrast of the big round barrel and the teeny little handle — and was glad to finally come up with a project where I could use them. The juice is good too! I got impatient waiting for the family to finish up the contents, so I had Ralph pour what was left into another pitcher, then I washed out the inside.
source

Photo

Photo

Photo

When looking for an appetizer one of the key requirements is...

When looking for an appetizer one of the key requirements is often that it can be prepared in advance. No one wants to be stuck in the kitchen throughout their party and no one wants their guests to be eating cold food that should be hot. This recipe meets both of these criteria. You can assemble these a few hours ahead of time and keep them refrigerated. You could even make the filling the night before. Because it only takes a few minutes to assemble, these come together really easy, so you can make them even if you only have a few minutes of prep time to spare.

And best of all, they are always a big hit. Experiment with the tortilla variations for v

source

Photo

Photo
